UP AND DOWN

Yesterday I got some news that made me think about life and how it takes you up and down the way it wants. Life makes you meet fantastic people but then it takes them away  in a moment. Obviously it’s not a final farewell, not at all! But I feel a mixture of  feelings (not much positive) to see how people can change the other’s life in just one decision.

Some time ago, Eli showed me a song that I still love as the first time. I am very grateful.

Eli, life make us go up and down, but always does it in the right direction.

YEAH!

We are living difficult times here in our country. Well, I know it's a global situation, but these days, with our new political scene, the crisis, the burning forests and all the sh*t that's happening here... Well, let's just say that is not easy being an optimistic and to keep the hope alive... but not impossible!

Its Friday, it's Summer, tonight we have a birthday dinner with some dear friends (Happy Birthday Anna!), and the most important thing, I will start my vacations next week (sunshine, lollipops and pink unicorns!!)

And there's always music and funny videos to help us...

Have a great summer weekend!

SUMMER READING

I'm a non-stop reader and I need to have a book waiting for me before I finish the one that I'm reading.  I had planned to write a single post for each book, but time passes and they are accumulating on my bedside table, so here it goes, three books for the price of one!

The first book is "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card.

"In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut—young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training."

This is a science fiction novel written  in 1985. I'm not a science fiction lover but this is a classic of this genre and a must read (some people considered it to be the best sci-fi novel ever written).  I really enjoyed reading it,  it's good to know that there are three more books to continue the story!

Next book is "The night circus" by Erin Morgenstern.

"The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands."

This book mixes dreamy sceneries, love and magic. It's a love story  but to me this was the least important. What I like the most was the description of the different magic sceneries the lovers create in their competition: the ice garden, the smell boxes, the bonfire... well, I loved The Circus itself.  In fact, I want to go there!! Perfect to read before bed!

And the last one, "Nunca olvides que te quiero"  (Never forget I love you) by Delphine Bertholon

I can't find if there is an english version of this book.  It tells the story of Madison, an 11 year old girl kidnapped when she was going home. Madison writes in her notebook how it feels to be locked, how she misses her family and friends, her experiences as she grows and her strength and perseverance.  I really enjoyed this book! To me is the best of the three even though I postponed the reading for months because I thought It would be really sad! How wrong I was! It's not a sad book, It's a book about hope and strength.

Waiting to read your opinions!!

XOXO

ANOTHER KIND OF BOOK

Last week I bought the book GRAPHICS PACKAGING AND PRODUCTION. This is a very illustrative book about the industrial processes for making products that we usually use. I liked it immediately, as soon as I saw it on the shelves of the University of Trondheim library, when we were in Norway. That library was a nice place, and I think I could be there for hours... It was full of books of science, medicine, photography, art, crafts, architecture, biology, chemistry, students researches ... I've never seen a bookstore completely focused on this kind of books. The libraries in our country are usually full of books for big audiences and bestsellers, but not specialized in the issues I found on Trondheim. I did not buy it right there because the price was quite high in Norwegian kroner. Once in Barcelona, I found it in Laie library, one of the few stores that are saved from the commercial mediocrity.

Well, the book is very interesting. Published in 2012, it shows how to make industrial production processes such as bottles and jars, shapes in plastics used for packaging, or the cardboard where the eggs are packed, how to paint on porcelain, how to make garbage bags ... and much more. It describes which materials they use, and the environmental impact of each process.

The pictures are the ones I took at the same bookstore in Trondheim. Oh! And you can buy it in Amazon too.

TO MY PARENTS

Today I want to dedicate this song to my parents, that have been a few days with us, at our home, and to all the parents who, like them, love their children, who care for them, and do all that is possible and impossible to make them happy.

Dad, Mum, we miss you!

Oh, Dolors, take me to the dance
Today, when everyone is coming, today is when we have to go.
Oh, Dolors, I’ll come in the evening
With a honk of the horn and I’ll wait for you below.
And, Dolors, today, between the heads there will be no complicit glances,
Nor, Dolors, any absentminded finger that accidentally grazes a back.

Today, Dolors, I’ll beat out a rhythm with my hands
While you pull out your nth cocktail voucher.
Today, Dolors, suggest a theme to the singer
One that laughs at you and me and at this story which is ending.

Come, Dolors, today we’ll be big kids.
No nonsense, no being special.
One two three, one two three, cha cha cha
Heel-toe, heel-toe, and start over again.

And, Dolors, no one will expect a sweet scene in front of the gate.
Nor, Dolors, will any great truth be revealed when it all comes clear.

Today, Dolors, we’ll move our body to the rhythm
Of an accelerated drum, of a great bass line.
Today, Dolors, suggest a theme to the singer
One that laughs at you and me and at this story, which doesn’t matter any more.

One that defines us in three chords
One that explains us to posterity
One that’s deliberately a full stop, Dolors,
Dolors, one that seems like it could never end.
Dolors, one that seems like it could never end.
Dolors, one that seems like it could never end.

MONDAY NEEDS MUSIC

A few days ago, Marina told me she had in mind two perfect songs for our music posts.
 Here you have her choice

RETRONAUT

Today I'm not going to talk about a particular photographer but a  website dedicated to photography. Well, I think it's most an online archive of photographs. Just looking at the top of the page you can choose  what historical period you want to travel.
There are pictures really curious. For example, we can see how the Statue of Liberty was built:

Or a funny audition for The Black Cat from 1961.

I specially love the old coloured photographs.  Seeing those faces, those dresses in color, they look closer to me, more real, even though sometimes they look like actors with costumes. Here you have some examples...

All these pictures and more on the web http://www.retronaut.co/

Have a nice weekend!

Hello! We have returned from Norway. We had such a lovely time and we're full of  sweet memories from this journey. I hope I can explain you soon everything we have done, or at least give you a clear idea of how exciting these days have been.

Today I will talk about another thing. Nowadays I'm surrounded by many people who have children, or want to have them, I show you some sites to find kids clothes. If someday I have children, and I have money, I’d like to dress them like this!

LINKS LOVED

Some funny things I've found via Internet:
  • If you wanna test your color perception take this Xrite test.  Just follow the instructions and arrange the colors by hue order. Best score is 0. Mine was 12 :-o!
  • And when you see these pictures, maybe you'll think you really have a problem with your color perception... Yes, it's a pink water lake, no photoshop involved! You can find it in Senegal, Amazing!
  • And talking about amazing stuff, take a look at this tinny victorian house.
  • A few months ago I talked about Gotye in one of our music posts. There are a lot of versions of his "Somebody that I used to know" but I find this one pretty funny.
  • And last, the most original and scatological stuff I've found on the Internet. If you are looking for a good revenge or just the perfect present for someone you dislike, go to  www.ipoopyou.com/.  Yes, what you see is real. You can buy and send shit in a box, like a present! Crazy...

That's all friends,

XOXO
