MEET RACHEL BRICE

Hello family! It seems that this cold of mine doesn't want to go away. I'm still sick enough to spend the day in bed.  TIme to rest, I guess, but I have so many things to do!

One of my hobbies is Belly Dancing. I have a performance with my group next month and we need time to practice, but with this cold I can't go to classes, and it makes me upset.

Looking on the bright side, I'll take these days to rest and to appreciate the fact of being healthy (something that  I usually take for granted).

Well, after all this talk, I want to introduce you one of my favourites belly dancers. She is Rachel Brice...

If you like her style, apart from the thousand of videos of her that you can find on youtube, I recommend you visit her web Arbibi.

WHERE CAN I FIND…? DESIGN FURNITURE!

I found DomesticoShop by chance, but I am glad I did it!
Don’t think that design furniture it’s always cold and overly expensive.
In DomesticoShop you can do two things if you think like me: give yourself a fancy present, or get ideas to make  similar furniture with your hands (I prefer this idea, at least is more exciting and cheaper).

It is Nordic style, but you will find several brands that are already in stores here.

I leave you some pictures of what I liked and inspired.

See you!

SANT JORDI

Yesterday was a very very very special day in Catalunya: la Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George's day). It's like Valentine's Day, but instead of cakes, presents or hearts, men give red roses to women, and women give them books.

The most popular legend in Catalonia about Sant Jordi tells that at Montblanc ( a village in Conca de Barberà), there was a terrible dragon which viciously attacked men and beasts. To pacify it, lots were drawn and a person was chosen to be given as a sacrifice to the monster. One day, the misfortune fell on the king's daughter, who would have died in the beast's claws if it had not been for the arrival of a handsome knight who challenged the dragon and killed it. Over the dragon blood grew up a red rose,  and the knight gave it to the princess. And since then, it's a tradition that each 23 April, men give red roses to their loved ones.

It is a very beautiful day. In Barcelona's most visited street, La Rambla, and all over Catalonia, thousands of stands of roses and makeshift bookstalls are hastily set up for the occasion. By the end of the day, some four million roses and 800,000 books will have been purchased.
I let you some photos I took yesteraday in Barcelona.

See you!

MONDAY NEEDS MUSIC

Well, the weekend it's over, oooh... But today is "Sant Jordi" (our Valentine's day here in Catalonia). All the streets are plenty of red roses and books, and so much love!

Last saturday I went to the premiere of "The Hunger Games". I was excited like a child. And the film was amazing! I totally recommend you watch it, even if you haven't read the books. But sunday, I had to spend all day in bed with a sore throat and slight fever. But well, today is another day and I'm ready to go for a walk through stalls of books and roses.
Today's songs: the newest of Paul McCartney and Keane.

Enjoy your day!

WHERE CAN I FIND...? DIFFERENT SHOES!

Again in the Born district of Barcelona city, in a narrow street called Cotoners, there is a small shop, a curious shoe store that matches perfectly with the modernity of this new neighborhood style.
In this beautiful decorated establishment, you will find shoes that are very different from usual. They could easily belong to a Tim Burton's movie.

They are made in California, with the best Italian leather and treated with natural dyes.
As the owners say on the web, they took the idea of a shop in New York, and brought it to Barcelona in April 2009.
It’s possible to customize them, although what you find in the store it’s enough to dress with a different style, and very comfortable!
Are Cydwoq shoes, visit this link if you want to know more.

KIDS CAKE

Last weekend we made a cake for my nephews. I wanted the kids to participate actively in it. We use a special mold, shaped medieval castle, as you can see in the photos. I bought it online on Ebay for 15 euros with postage included. Once the cake was made,  the children began to decorate it.

Everyone had a homemade pastry bag with chocolate. I already knew that it wouldn’t be a cake too aesthetically appealing, but for me it was more important that they enjoy, and of course they did!

After that, they covered the cake with colored chocolate pills. Finally, they placed the custom flags that I did a few days before. The flags were done with different drawings, and there were a few with their own photos, decorated with fun draws.

For sure they enjoyed the game and we did it too!

See you soon!

Pictures of flying people. That's my thing.
She is Natsumi Hayashi or the levitating girl, a Tokio teenager that takes pictures of herself jumping  until she achieves that perfect, natural-looking "levitation."

NUMBERS ON WEDDING TABLES

Good morning!

It’s been a while since I don’t give you wedding ideas.

Today we speak about the numbers on tables. The restaurant put a green laminated cardboard in the center of each table with numbers, but we do not like the color and the design too much so we decided to make our own numbers, original and personalized.

Taking the idea of our video invitation, we took white foam cardboard, the same kind as we used on the video, and we cut it to the appropriate sie. On one side there was a custom logo sticker with our names, and the numbers on the other side, written by hand with permanent maker.

See you soon!

TIME FOR MOVIES

Weekend is here! Time for sleeping and watching movies. Or not. Anyway, If you're looking for a movie to watch this weekend, I have two titles to recommend you. They both talk about time in a very special way.

The first one is "In Time" (2011), a science fiction film starring Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake (I don't know why he is still trying with movies, music is your thing Justin).
In the film, a genetic alteration has allowed humanity to stop aging at 25. 'Living time', has replaced money and its availability is displayed on an implant on people's lower arm. When that clock reaches zero, one dies instantly. So the rich can live forever and the poor, have to fight for every second of life.  Here's the trailer.

The second movie is "Timer" (2009). If you have to choose between the two movies, choose this one. I truly recommend it.
This is a science-fiction romantic comedy about a device that counts down to the moment you meet your soul mate. Imagine knowing for sure that you have to wait 20 years to know your perfect match, and if the ideal person comes too soon or you do not like him? Here is the trailer.

And that's all friends,

Have a lovely weekend!

LA BASILICA

La Basilica is a peculiar jewelry in Barcelona that becomes a contemporary art gallery.
Everything is extremely old or extremely modern, so opposed that the extreme mixing captivates you. Just getting  there, you can see that it will be a great experience.
There is so much variety of pieces, so it’s impossible not to find some of them attractive, even it is hard not to fall in love with a little piece of art.

The sculptures that they make are amazing;  bodies covered with natural leaves and latex. They have a special touch:  fine details, hours of work with the pieces…

This place will not let you indifferent.

THE TRADITONAL CATALAN EASTER CAKE

In our country it's a tradition to eat a special cake the first Monday after Easter, "la Mona". It has different versions, but the traditional one is a cake covered with a mixture of sugar and butter and crystallized fruits. Ah! And a chocolate egg on top.

I let you the photos of “la Mona” that my family did this Easter.

See you!

MONDAY NEEDS MUSIC

Weather it's been a little crazy these days. Time to stay at home,  listen to quiet music and watch movies under the blanket.

The movie was "Like Crazy" here you can see the trailer. Is a love story, but not cheesy. I enjoyed watching it and I think most people can relate to their long distance love story.  What I loved the most was the soundtrack because many of the songs are from Dustin O'Halloran. Thanks to the film I knew of his last work "Lumiere".

It's impossible not to love his music.

Have a nice day,

MOMO

Momo is a personal museum of its owner, Kaori. Just entering the shop, silence and peace surround you. Located on a narrow street of Ciutat Vella neighborhood, it takes you to Japan in a moment. Ceramics, calligraphy equipment, lamps, fabrics and Kimonos…
Everything has an air of reality that brings us to daily Japan.
Origami is present there. Personally, I love to see how a piece of paper becomes a complicated figure!
Kaori has an especial sensitivity and delicacy on her fingers to wrap purchases, exactly the calm and patience that Japanese people are made of.
